ICT has become an irreplaceable tool for citizens in a democratic eSociety. The conference, which takes place on 30-31 October 2008 in Florence, Italy, investigates "digital legal information" by analyzing related aspects in the light of freedom of digital legal culture and knowledge (free access to law, quality of legal information, technological progress shaping law, etc.). Within this interaction of technological progress and law, free access to information is only the first step - yet a fundamental one. Quality is necessarily connected to access to information, since it ensures that the information is complete, reliable and clear. Full quality and knowledge of legal information enables citizens to exercise their rights of safeguarding rules set by the judicial system in a conscious and effective way. The conference provides a platform for exchanging challenges and findings in this respect.
